Privacy policy
This policy explains how Betty Observer handles information when you use betty.observer. It was last updated on 2 November 2026.
Who we are
Betty Observer is based in Porto, Portugal. For privacy questions, write to [email protected]. We are the controller of the information described here.
What we collect
- Details you send us by email or through the contact form, which opens your own email app. That includes your name, email address, and whatever you choose to tell us about the work.
- A preference stored in your browser if you use the cookie notice. It remembers only whether you dismissed the notice.
- Technical logs that a normal web server and the network delivering the site keep for security: IP address, browser type, and the page requested. We do not use those logs to build advertising profiles.
Cookies and similar storage
The site does not run advertising or analytics cookies. The only item stored by the site itself is the cookie-notice preference in local storage on your device. You can clear it in your browser at any time, and you can reopen the notice from the footer.
The site may be delivered through a network provider that processes connection data to cache pages and block abuse. That processing is part of serving the site, not a marketing list.
How we use information
We use messages you send in order to reply, to decide whether a project or commission is a fit, and to keep a record of that conversation. We do not sell personal information. We do not send newsletters unless you have asked us to write to you, and you can tell us to stop.
How long we keep it
Enquiry emails are kept for as long as the conversation, and any later project, is active, and then for up to three years so we can answer follow-up questions. Server logs are kept for a shorter operational period by the host. The cookie preference stays until you clear it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also object to our using it. Write to [email protected]. You may lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country. Our governing context for the site is the laws of Portugal.
Children
The site is written for adults commissioning work or reading the journal. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the date at the top of the page.
